Goals of Sunshine Day Caregivers

Our goal at the center is to help children develop self-control and to learn appropriate social behaviors. We encourage children to have self-respect and respect for others. By encouraging and role modeling, we can help the children to develop self-control and respect for the needs of other people.

An integral part of a caregiver's role at the center is to guide children's behavior throughout the day.

We do not have a policy for infants apart from staff modeling appropriate behavior, re-directing the children, providing choices, intervening at the right moment, comforting the child who needs comfort, avoiding stressful situations and relieving un wanted stress by providing age-appropriate activities that help the children cop with stress by not feeling overwhelmed.

In guiding children's behavior, caregivers use two types of strategies, which are prevention and intervention.

To prevent unwanted behaviors, we as caregivers models appropriate behavior and problem solving strategies with each other to create a positive atmosphere for the children.

A child's behavior can be affected by many things. We need to remember that each child is different and has different needs and wants. We treat each child as an individual regardless of its cultural background, age, race, sex, and temperament and family background. We respect children to show them that they are worthy and important persons to us at the center. We do not force a child to participate in an activity they are not interested in. We have program to meet the needs in our care, which helps to build the child's self-esteem.
